Walking/Driving Contradictions

So there I was today, driving in the northbound lane of I-43 in Milwaukee. Beside me, the light blue minivan was in a hurry as it blew by me in the fast lane. I noticed the over abundance of bumper stickers on the back of the vehicle. I enjoy reading bumper stickers. I drive a lot for work and find it amusing to get a glimpse of the interests, character, theology (or lackthereof) and deepest inner thoughts of my co-drivers as we hustle to our next appointment or where ever we may be heading.

The first bumper sticker I noticed was at the bottom right of the vehicle. It was separated horizontally in half. On the top half were the words “PRO-CHILD” and below that the words “PRO-CHOICE”. Wha??

Ok, so this gets my attention. I'm a Bible believing, born-again Christian. I hate abortion. It disgusts me how this multi-billion dollar business fronts itself on the premise of “it's a woman's choice”. Let's just be honest and call it what it really is. Abortion is a convenience. Now sure, you can come at me with “Well, what if the woman is raped? Do you want her to have a memory of that awful moment for the rest of her life?” or “What about incest?” To that I say, with a heavy heart: “What does the Bible say about murder? What does our Lord tell us about children? Does He tell us that He is Creator of everything?” That's not snarky or meant to minimize the seriousness of the fictitious situation, but really, how can we think that murdering a child in the womb could possibly help the hurt? It doesn't make sense to me but that's ok. There's much more than just this that doesn't make sense to me in this crazy world.

Alright, back to the speedy minivan. As I said earlier, the first bumper sticker got my attention. Typically if someone flies by me on the highway I let them fly. Milwaukee traffic can be interesting though and to my surprise the minivan was in front of me once again. I look down at the left side of the bumper this time, still shaking my head about the message on the right side of the bumper, and my eyes squint to get the message of the green sticker of intelligence. My eyes go from squinting to disbelief. This bumper sticker is a four line worded message spewing…get this…an anti-war, pro-life message!!!

Now. Seriously.

So from the bumper stickers, this person is a fan of kids unless a woman chooses to kill them in the womb. Got it. This person also doesn't like war. Ok, that's understandable too. War is hell. I know first hand knowledge of this. However, what do you do with a dictator that is killing his people by the tens of thousands because they don't agree with him? Remember Saddam? There was also this guy that wanted to rid the world of the Jewish people. I think he ordered the deaths of over 6 million Jews?

There have been over 55 million children killed in the womb “by choice” since 1973 in the United States of America. One could argue that this could be the largest war America has ever been in. A war conducted in the shadows, behind the scenes, all the while creating a fortune for all those involved, except for the mother and the dead baby. The mother will deal with the guilt of her decision for her entire life. The baby, well, it didn't get a choice.

I look over the rest of the van as I continue north in traffic. I'm pretty sure there are over two dozen bumper stickers on this thing. You can't imagine what the majority of the rest of them are “advertising”? Almost every democrat that ran for office in Wisconsin since 2000, Obama 2008, 2012 and the token global warming rant rounded out the mosaic.

I have to see who is driving this! Before I see the driver my heart fell when I see what is swinging from the rear view mirror. It's a cross. This is a traveling billboard for liberal Christianity!

Let us review so we can see the confusion others see from “Christians” as we go through our days on this earth.

1. Kids are good.
2. Abortion is good too. (It's a choice)
3. I vote for only Democrats (they like kids and think abortion is good too)
4. War is no good.
5. I'm a Christian.

As Paul states with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) So we can see that ALL Scripture is good. As God is the only one who is good. (Mark 10:18) If you are a Christian, I don't see how you can not believe the Word of God is absolute truth.

I hurt for the woman driving this van. I do not understand a “Christian” that values what God hates. How much does God value children? Luke 17:2 gives us a glimpse. “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.” Similar verses are found in Matthew 18:6 and Mark 9:42 as well.

God values children greatly with a love we can not imagine. Abortion does not value children in any form. The Democratic Party platform values abortion.

Can a person who calls themselves a Democrat be Christian? Are they walking contradictions?

We'll continue this discussion further…

What We Have Here is Failure to Communicate…

This is deeply saddening. I've seen The Tonight Show interviews in the past where they find people on the streets in LA or somewhere else in California and pose a ridiculously easy question to them with the hopes that they have no clue in order to get laughs. Typically, it's like this, “Who was the first president of the United States?” It may be rigged, but many people don't know or get that wrong.

The video above was not intended to get laughs. It was done to show just how foolish and unknowing people are. Seriously, none of the people interviewed have any idea what the first amendment says! What's worse? THEY DON'T CARE. They just sign the paper for the guy.

I first saw this on Todd Friel's TV show on the NRB Network called, Wretched. I sat motionless in disbelief as I watched each person sign. We know we live in troubling times but seeing this was heart wrenching. These people are in America and I'm assuming are legal citizens. By looking at them, they seem to be of voting age. Doesn't that make you feel better?

Tell all those you can about Jesus. This nation needs the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Being Deceived is not…

…something that is beyond you. I was deceived for many years. I continue to be deceived. This blog is proof positive of the deception I’ve struggled with. See, I was led to create this blog years ago. Notice how many posts there have been- most of which were not even posted by me? It’s time for this Watchman to start ringing the bell!

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.2 Corinthians 11:3 (ESV)

I was a youngster when my mom literally had to drag my family to a Billy Graham movie at a local theatre. She was new to the Christian faith at the time and although she was raised in the Lutheran church in a small town north of Green Bay, she wasn’t actively part of the Church for years. My dad wasn’t interested in going to church as I was growing up either. Typically, as men of the family go, so goes the family, so it’s truly a blessing from God that my mom continued praying and praying and then praying more for her children to come to faith in Christ.

So we’re at this movie… I don’t remember much of it although I do remember it was pretty tacky. Just to be clear, I love Billy Graham. I honestly believe that God has worked through this man to bring many to Christ. To clarify, those many people who have “walked the aisle” or “prayed a prayer” at one of his numerous stadium sermons did not save themselves by doing so. Saving souls is God’s job and His job alone. So we walked the aisle and said the “Sinner’s Prayer”, which I found out many years later is not found anywhere in the Bible, and I was good.

Fast forward around 20 years. It’s 2003. I’m still good. Haven’t attended church much. I enlisted into the Army after 9-11 and I don’t think I missed a Protestant service all the way through Basic Training and AIT. I’m not sure if it was 9-11 itself or if it was the Army, but during that time between late 2001 and 2003, God was drawing me closer and opening my eyes to the world around me. I’m still not saved at this point but I said the “prayer” when I was younger so…I’m good, right?

I got home from Iraq in 2004 and blew through most of my tax free earnings from the deployment faster than you can say “Emergent Church”. I was still deceived when I got my first and only DWI after a “Welcome Home” party too. I said the prayer! The DWI was a real eye opener. I still drank afterwards though.

It then came to 2006. The Lord continued to draw me closer to Him and I continued to push back. I kept Him at a distance and He was well within His “box”. I took the box out when I needed to be forgiven of something I was convicted of and when I wanted to sin again, I’d just put the box away until I was ready to say “sorry Lord”. Seriously.

Through the prayers of my mom and a group of godly men at a local church, God introduced me to His saving grace. The gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Before that time in 2008, if you would’ve asked me what the gospel was, I would’ve responded with something along the lines of, “Well, Jesus died for my sins and I’ve accepted him into my heart and that allows me to get to heaven.” That’s not altogether false, but it misses the mark and places me at the center and in control of my salvation, which is false. Yes, Christ bore flesh and died for my sin, however, the gospel is so much deeper than that. We are hopelessly lost and evil at our core because of the fall of man (Adam and Eve- Genesis 3). Sin entered the human race and separated us from our Creator at that point. Throughout the Old Testament, God is pointing to His Son. Christ was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. He performed miracles and showed us signs during His time on earth in order that we would believe. Because of our sin He was arrested, beaten, scorned, whipped, and bled for us. We then crucified Him after a number of ridiculous trials. He died and three days after, rose victorious over sin and death. He met with over 500 of his disciples before ascending to the right hand of the Father in heaven and reigns, living, today! Praise God!!! He alone deserves our praise and worship! That is the gospel!

Not that I did anything to deserve or warrant saving, but He allowed my salvation through the work of Christ and Christ alone. As some put it, we are saved by grace ALONE, through faith ALONE, in Christ, ALONE. Can you see the difference between what I believed for almost two decades and what the Truth is?

I pray that this strengthens those that read it and all glory is given to God. I am only a weak sinner, alive in Christ, trying to save a few.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:22-25
